What is the Clubhouse App?

If you’ve been on the internet at all in the last several months, you’ve probably heard the buzz around the Clubhouse app. Though the app has been causing a stir, especially in the business world, a lot of people are left wondering… what is it? We’re here to explain!

Clubhouse was founded by Bay Area residents Paul Davison and Rohan Seth. It has been around for just over a year now, and it’s currently an invite-only app. The exclusivity plus big name members like Bill Gates and Elon Musk has contributed to the app’s rising popularity.

Like LinkedIn, Clubhouse allows you to network with other business owners, freelancers, and entrepreneurs. The main way it differs from existing apps is that it centers around audio. Similar to a live podcast, you listen in on great minds having great conversations. Each “room” has different participants with different areas of expertise. You can join a room to hear discussions on faith, new technology, diversity in the workplace, how to market your business, and so much more!

If you feel like you have expert knowledge in your industry, you can also host a chat. This provides you an opportunity to get your name out there and share your knowledge with other entrepreneurs in your field. Hosting a chat is a great way to build credibility.

Conversations are not recorded, so you have to tune in live if you want to listen in. When you’re in a room, you can “raise your hand” virtually if you have a question for the hosts. Up to 5000 people can join a room at once, so you may not get called on, but if you’re trying to increase your visibility it’s always good to try!

If your goal is to increase sales or find new customers, Clubhouse may not be the app for you—but if you’re interested in learning from other entrepreneurs and connecting with business leaders across the country, it’s worth looking into!
