5 Steps To A Better Caption

If no one is reading your captions, do they even matter? It’s up to you to make them matter, so here’s five ways you can revamp your writing to make your captions double-tap-worthy.

  1. Find out who you’re writing for.

Dig into your analytics and find out who your audience is. If your target audience is female millennials, then you shouldn’t be writing for Baby Boomers or Gen Z. Once you know who you’re writing for, make sure your tone and style stays consistent.

  2. Know your brand.

Why do people follow you? Are they interested in the items your sell or the services you offer? Are you a resource for community events? Do you offer leadership and advice? Nail down exactly what it is you have to offer, and stick to it! There’s no need to post about National Burger Day if you’re a nail salon.

  3. Tell a story.

If your social pages feel corporate, it will be harder to connect with your followers. Your captions should have personality and tell the story of your business. Why did you start it? How long have you been in business? What were some of your favorite moments in the journey? Reminding your followers that there’s a human behind the brand can make a big impact.

  4. Engage with your audience.

Are you giving your audience a chance to interact with you? If you’re not, you should be! Ask a question, run a poll, ask them to drop an emoji in the comments or tag a friend—there are endless ways to connect! Going out of your way to interact with your followers builds community around your brand.

  5. Don’t be scared of emojis.

Even if your brand is professional, you shouldn’t shy away from emojis—just make sure you’re using the right ones! Studies have shown that posts with emojis in the caption are more likely to garner engagement than those without.
